( ETH ) – California could soon force large department stores to display some child products in gender-neutral ways after the state Legislature passed a bill on Wednesday aimed at getting rid of traditional pink and blue marketing schemes for items like toys and toothbrushes. According to USN, The bill would not outlaw traditional boys and girls sections in department stores, but it would require retailers to have a gender-neutral section to display “a reasonable selection” of items “regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys.” The bill would only apply to department stores with 500 or more employees, so most small businesses would be exempt. ( ETH ) – Businesses, schools, and government agencies could face a fine of $5,000 if they require you to show proof of vaccination. According to FOX30 News, The state of Florida is starting to enforce the penalty starting September 16. Violators can appeal the fine, but if they lose, they have 30 days to pay. ( ETH ) – Amazon plans to take a more proactive approach to determine what types of content violate its cloud service policies, such as rules against promoting violence, and enforce its removal, according to two sources, a move likely to renew debate about how much power tech companies should have to restrict free speech. ( ETH ) – San Francisco is trying something new to combat an uptick in gun crimes – paying people to not shoot at others. The city says they plan to identify ten people for the Dream Keeper Fellowship, a pilot program. The criteria being considered include those at a high risk of being involved in a shooting, either as the victim or as the shooter. The ten people will receive $300 per month in exchange for pledging not to be involved in a crime involving a gun.
