Hurricane Laura Moves Inland Across Louisiana, Destructive wind gusts of 100 to 135 mph, Isolated Tornadoes
UPDATE: (ETH) – Hurricane Laura has now made landfall and moving inland northward across western Louisiana producing destructive winds of 100-135 mph, flooding rainfall, storm surges, and isolated tornadoes.
Laura reportedly made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana, at 1 a.m. CDT as a strong Category 4 with 150 mph winds, southwest Louisiana’s first Category 4 landfalling hurricane on record, according to NOAA’s historical database.
The destructive winds have knocked out power to over 500,000 homes and businesses in southeast Texas and Louisiana with Lake Charles, Louisiana, reporting wind destruction including numerous shattered windows in downtown skyscrapers, a communication tower collapsing, power poles toppled and roofs completely shredded.
