‘TAKEN FROM ME’: Female Swimmer Rips Transgender Policy in NCAA
A biological boy named Lia Thomoas, formerly Will, switched to the women’s team and defeated all of the competitors in the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA championships.
A Virginia Tech swimmer, Reka Gyorgy, is speaking out by saying the opportunity to compete was unfairly “taken from me.” Gyorgy says she missed the cut-off to compete in the finals because of Thomas’ dominance in the sport.
“It feels like the final spot was taken from me because of the NCAA’s decision to let someone who is not a biological female compete,” she said, blasting the NCAA’s policy on transgender athletes.
“I know you could say I had the opportunity to swim faster and make the top 16, but this situation makes it a bit different and I can’t help but be angry or sad. It hurts me, my team and other women in the pool,” she continued.
“With all due respect, I would like to address something that is a problem in our sport right now and hurting athletes, especially female swimmers,” she wrote in a letter.
“Everyone has heard and known about transgender swimmer, Lia Thomas, and her case including all the issues and concerns that her situation brought into our sport. I’d like to point out that I respect and fully stand with Lia Thomas; I am convinced that she is no different than me or any other D1 swimmer who has woken up at 5am her entire life for morning practice.”
“She has sacrificed family vacations and holidays for a competition. She has pushed herself to the limit to be the best athlete she could be. She is doing what she is passionate about and deserves that right. On the other hand, I would like to critique the NCAA rules that allow her to compete against us, who are biologically women.”
“I’m writing this letter right now in hopes that the NCAA will open their eyes and change these rules in the future. It doesn’t promote our sport in a good way and I think it is disrespectful against the biologically female swimmers who are competing in the NCAA.”
“One spot was taken away from the girl who got 9th in the 500 free and din’t make it back to the A final preventing her from being an All-American. Every event that transgender athletes competed in was one spot taken away from biological females throughout the meet.”
“It is the result of the NCAA and their lack of interest in protecting their athletes. I ask the NCAA takes time to think about all the other biological women in swimming, try to think how the would feel if they would be in our shoes. Make the right changes for our sport and for a better future in swimming,” she said.
Thomas previously swam for three years as a male at Penn before changing gender identity. Thomas still has male genital and uses the women’s locker room, according to teammates who have spoken out in frustration over the situation.
Even though Lia has undergone “testosterone suppression” for one year prior to joining the women’s team, as the NCAA policy requires, this does not reverse the impact of nearly 20 years of presumably normal male testosterone levels. The NCAA’s policy fails to address this problem.
Critics argue that Lia Thomas possesses an obvious unfair advantage over female competitors as a result of going through male puberty. Olympians such as Caitlyn Jenner and Michael Phelps have critized the situation. “I’ve said from the beginning, biological boys should not be playing in women’s sports,” Jenner said. “We need to protect women’s sports.” Watch the clip below:
“It’s unfortunate that this is happening. I don’t know why she’s doing it,” Jenner said of Thomas. “She knows when she’s swimming she’s beating the competition by two laps. She was born as a biological boy. She was raised as a biological boy. Her cardiovascular system is bigger. Her respiratory system is bigger,” Jenner continued.
“Her hands are bigger. She can swim faster. That’s a known,” Jenner said. “All of this is woke world that we’re living in right now is not working. I feel sorry for the other athletes that are out there, especially at Penn or anyone she’s competing against, because in the woke world you have to say, ‘Oh my gosh, this is great.’ No it’s not.”
Jenner won the gold medal in men’s Decathlon in the 1976 Olympics while identified as Bruce Jenner. At age 72, Jenner transitioned in 2015. In agreement with Jenner, nationally televised cardiothoracic surgeon and university professor Dr. Oz has spoken out about the issue.
Michael Phelps, who is the decorated Olympian of all time, expressed concerns about transgender swimmers competing against athletes with a different biological gender.
The female teammates of Lia have also spoken out in anger about the unfairness of the situation.
The female swimmer asked to remain anonymous for fear of liberals attacking her and destroying her life. “Pretty much everyone individually has spoken to our coaches about not liking this,” the teammate said.
“Our coach just really likes winning. He’s like most coaches. I think secretly everyone just knows it’s the wrong thing to do,” the teammate told Outkick. The teammate said public support for Thomas is “very fake.” If anyone voices dissent, they will be bombarded by the left-wing attack machine and those aggressively working to push the transgender agenda.
