CNN International is now featuring a phenomenon called stir-fried stones. I kid you not. They're claiming it's China's latest street food fad. And it's not a euphemism. When they say stir-fried stones, they mean literally rocks covered in spices. People are supposed to suck off the flavors, then spit out the rocks, hence the dish's name, suodiu, which means "suck and dispose." Clearly, they're taking the phrase "kick rocks" to a whole other dimension. Also, if you thought Pet Rocks were a brilliant idea, you're in for a treat. Now you can eat them too. Again, I'm not a fan of media outlets pretending that aspects of poverty and suffering make for compelling stories. However, the big takeaway is that things are not going so well in communist China.
